John Pickens Shealy Sr.
Savannah – John Pickens Shealy Sr. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 28, 2010.
John was born July 28, 1918 in Lexington, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Daniel and Lucille Shealy and the late Mary Shealy. He moved to Savannah where he met his loving wife of 65 years and started their family. He began his career at Pure Oil, later known as Union Oil, where he retired after approximately 40 years. He was a member of the Reformation Church until transferring his membership to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in September 1980. He was an active member of the "Men in Mission," "Thursday Work Crew," as well as an usher.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and son. His favorite pastimes were gardening, fishing, and watching the Atlanta Braves as well as getting together with family and friends either in Savannah or at the lake house in Chapin.
John was preceded in death by his wife Freida Shealy, his parents, and his brother LeRoy Shealy.
He is survived by his sons, John P. Shealy Jr. Cindy and Daniel L. Shealy; granddaughters, Cara Getter Matt, Anne Shealy, Christine Shealy, Catherine Shealy, and Caroline Shealy; great grandson, John Page Getter; niece, Marcia Martin Tom and many more nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
He was loved by all.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Savannah, GA.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Savannah, GA with Pastor Peter J. Hartmann officiating.
Burial will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA.
Pallbearers will be Neil Huffstetler, Derrill Cannon, Stanley Rose, Alan Huffstetler, Charlie Cromer, Bubba Frick, and Mike Huffstetler.
